About the Conference

The 3rd Annual Conference on Public Safety Transformation - Technology & Counterterrorism (Prevention-Protection-Pursuit) provided an international forum for networking and collaboration amongst Canadian, US and European public safety officials.

The focus of this year's conference was on integrated policing, sharing of law enforcement information, biometrics identification, and cyber-security. This was a rare opportunity for professionals responsible for national security to meet and exchange ideas in a public forum. There was more than 30 unique presentations over two days with a special keynote address from Richard A. Clarke, former security advisor to President Bush, and Kevin Mitnick, the world's most famous former hacker.

    Clarke served the last three US Presidents as a senior White House Advisor. Over the course of a record-setting 11 consecutive years of White House service, he held the titles of: Special Assistant to the President for Global Affairs, National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism, Special Advisor to the President for Cyber Security.

    former hacker"

    Known as the "world's most famous former hacker" Mitnick will share his perspective on the threat of "social engineering" a highly effective type of attack that exploits the human element of corporate security. Mitnick has gained unauthorized access to computer systems at some of the largest corporations on the planet and penetrated some of the most resilient computer systems ever developed. He has been the subject of countless news and magazine articles published throughout the world. Kevin is the co-founder and President of Defensive Thinking, a firm that provides professional security consulting services. His book The Art of Deception was published in October 2002.
