CIPP/C Examination (Administered by the International Association of Privacy Professionals) - Colwood Room

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) is the first organization to develop and launch broad-based credentialing programs in information privacy.

The Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) is the definitive foundation course in Canadian privacy and data protection laws and practices. The CIPP/C was designed by Canadian privacy officers in coordination with the IAPP and is intended for entry- level and intermediate-level privacy and infosecurity professionals who work in the Canadian private sector.

CIPP/C-certified professionals are better able to identify and manage privacy and data protection issues in their organizations as well as understand emerging privacy and security threats. The CIPP/C represents that the credential holder has mastered an essential body of knowledge around Canadian privacy laws and standards as well as the general practice areas of information security, online privacy and data flow management.

Reboot is pleased to feature the CIPP/C examination at the 8th Annual Privacy and Security Conference and Exposition. The CIPP/C examination costs U.S.$245.00 and requires IAPP membership in advance. Exam preparation courseware also is available directly from the IAPP in both English and French. Please visit www.privacyassociation.org for more information and to register today!

Pre-Conference Privacy and Security Workshops

Workshop A: Privacy Breaches - Oak Bay I&II
"Privacy Breaches: Are You Ready?"

Increasingly we hear media stories about personal data that has been lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised. Are you ready for a privacy breach and do you know what to do when one occurs? This workshop will detail the steps you need to take to address the breach and to minimize negative consequences not only for your organization, but also for the individuals whose information has been affected.

Presenters:

Jason Eamer-Goult, Manager, Legislation and Privacy Policy, Ministry of Labour and Citizens' Services and

Cappone D'Angelo

Workshop B: Identity Management - Saanich
"Lessons in Identity Management: What We Wish We'd Known"

Identity theft, profiling, database security breaches... Is it any wonder that citizens fear centralized identification and authentication systems and have concerns about providing their identity information and conducting transactions online? Privacy, transparency, and usability are just as important as security in building a trusted online service.

This workshop will explore current identity management challenges and present a framework for developing a secure, user-centric, privacy enhancing, and scalable identity management system that will enable improved and appropriate information sharing and the delivery of trusted e-services to citizens and businesses. Participants will be introduced to different identity management models (both traditional and user-centric models) and to concepts such as "authoritative party", "relying party", "identity agent" and establishing "identity assurance". These concepts will be reinforced through use cases, real world examples and class discussion.

The workshop is non-technical in content and geared towards participants with no to intermediate knowledge of Identity Management and related concepts.

Presenters:

Charmaine Lowe, Director, Information Architecture and Standards, Office of the CIO and member of the Pan-Canadian Task Force on Identity Management and Authentication and BCeID Working Group

Ian Bailey, Director, Application Architecture and Standards, Office of the CIO and member of the B.C. Broader Public Sector Identity Management Forum and BCeID Working Group

Workshop C: Information Security - Theatre

Part 1 - 1:30-2:45pm
"Online Sophistication: Do You Know What Your Kids Know?"

Many adults have very little or no clue what today's kids know and do on the internet. Join us and kids from pre-school to high school as they show us what they typically do and where they go when they are online. We will engage in dialogue with these kids as well as those guest kids in the audience. We will ask them what they think about protecting themselves (do they worry about this?), what they think is acceptable behaviour, etc. On closing we will have the moderator(s) address the workshop participants.

Presenters:

Daniel Schwalbe, CISSP, Lead Security Engineer, Computing & Communications, University of Washington

Adrienne Hall, Senior Director, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing

Part 2 - 3:00-5:00pm
"A systematic approach to Security Threat and Risk Assessments"

Identifying and analysing information risk is vital if it is to be adequately mitigated. Within the Government of BC the identification and analysis of information risk is recorded in a Security Threat and Risk Assessment.

This session will present a straightforward approach for completing Security Threat and Risk Assessments using tools and methods developed by the Information Security Forum, an international not-for-profit organisation driven by its members including leading companies and public sector organisations.

Presenter: Clive Brown, Security Analyst, Advisory Services, Information Security Branch, OCIO, Gov't of BC
